Two staining methods:

acid-based chemical staining

  • mix of water, hydrochloric acid and acid-soluble metallic salts
  • acid lightly etches surface, metallic salts penetrate and

react chemically with hydrated lime in concrete

  • earthy tones: tans, browns, terracottas and soft blue-greens

water-based stains

  • blend of acrylic polymers and pigments
  • penetrate concrete to produce permanent color
  • broad spectrum with dozens of colors, including black, white and metallic tints
