Stained Concrete - The Art of Acid-Etch Staining
Two staining methods:
acid-based chemical staining
- mix of water, hydrochloric acid and acid-soluble metallic salts
- acid lightly etches surface, metallic salts penetrate and
react chemically with hydrated lime in concrete
- earthy tones: tans, browns, terracottas and soft blue-greens
water-based stains
- blend of acrylic polymers and pigments
- penetrate concrete to produce permanent color
- broad spectrum with dozens of colors, including black, white and metallic tints
